Gesture Recognition Sensor with Proximity RAKwireless RAK14008 (PixArt PAJ7620U2)

RAKwireless RAK14008 is a WisBlock module for touchless user interaction and gesture-based control. Built around the PixArt Imaging PAJ7620U2, it recognizes nine distinct hand gestures: up, down, left, right, forward, backward, clockwise circle, counter-clockwise circle, and waving. In addition, it includes proximity detection to sense objects approaching or moving away—useful as a wake-up trigger or context signal for user presence.

In real deployments, gesture sensing is most valuable when you want intuitive control without physical buttons or when touch is inconvenient (gloves) or undesirable (hygiene, sealed enclosures). The module lists ambient light immunity and ambient light noise cancellation, which helps maintain more stable behavior under changing lighting conditions.

It supports two gesture-speed profiles: Normal Mode (60–600 °/s) and Gaming Mode (60–1200 °/s). Interface is I2C up to 400 kbit/s. The module includes an onboard low-noise, high-PSRR regulator and a flexible power-saving scheme. Supply rails are VBAT 3.2–5.5 V and VCC 2.8–3.3 V. Operating temperature is -40 to +85 °C, storage -40 to +125 °C. Module size is 25 × 15 mm.
