RAKwireless RAK3312 is a WisBlock Core module for developers, integrators and product teams that need LoRaWAN, WiFi and BLE in a modular IoT device. The module is based on the Espressif ESP32-S3 with an Xtensa® 32-bit LX7 dual-core processor and an integrated Semtech SX1262 LoRa transceiver.
This variant operates in the 800 MHz range and is intended for LoRaWAN bands such as EU868, IN865 and RU864. It is used in sensor nodes, building automation, home automation, test setups and custom embedded products where one device needs long-range LoRaWAN communication as well as local wireless connectivity over WiFi or BLE.
The ESP32-S3 provides more processing headroom than basic low-power MCU modules. That makes the RAK3312 relevant for local logic, edge processing, graphical interfaces and firmware that needs to manage several interfaces and radio technologies in one device.
For LoRa, the module supports LoRaWAN and LoRa Point-to-Point communication. LoRaWAN activation is possible by OTAA or ABP. With an optimized antenna, the module can reach more than 10 km.
Custom firmware can be developed with the Arduino framework. UART, I2C, SPI, ADC and GPIO are available for connecting sensors, displays, actuators and other expansion modules. The external antenna connection uses an MHF4 IPEX connector.
A WisBlock Base board is required to use the RAK3312. The base board supplies power to the module and provides the programming and debugging interface. The module should be secured with screws on the base board. When using the LoRa, WiFi or BLE transceivers, a suitable antenna must be connected, as operating these radios without an antenna can damage the system.
