The Milesight UC501 EA 868M is a rugged LoRaWAN controller designed to connect multiple types of sensors and instruments in the field and send their data to a LoRaWAN network. Instead of deploying separate interface modules, the UC501 acts as a single sensor hub with GPIO, two analog inputs (0–10 V or 4–20 mA), a software-switchable RS232/RS485 port, and an SDI-12 interface commonly used in environmental monitoring.
In real deployments, the UC501 is often used to bring existing infrastructure online. For meter reading, a pulse-output water, gas, or electricity meter can be wired to GPIO and reported as accumulated consumption. For environmental and agriculture monitoring, SDI-12 makes it straightforward to connect weather and hydrology instruments and collect measurements from remote locations. In industrial sites, the serial interface is frequently used as a Modbus RTU to LoRaWAN bridge (RS485), allowing Modbus devices to report key registers over LoRaWAN where cabling isn’t practical.
The UC501 supports threshold and change alarms, so you can alert when readings exceed preset limits or change unexpectedly—useful for early warning on levels, temperatures, or process signals. To improve traceability and resilience, it provides on-device data storage (600 entries) and data retransmission, helping ensure you don’t lose critical measurements when connectivity is intermittent.
Built for harsh outdoor conditions, it features an IP68-rated enclosure and M12 connectivity to resist water ingress, corrosion, and vibration. Commissioning can be done via NFC or USB-C. This specific version is the EA model with an external antenna (SMA), which helps optimize placement and signal performance in challenging RF environments.
