The Milesight EM400-MUD 868 is a versatile ultrasonic distance sensor designed for applications where you need robust, low-maintenance distance, level, or fill monitoring. Using ultrasonic detection with a small blind spot, it fits common IoT deployments such as bin fill level, parking occupancy, and general distance/level measurement.

To speed up rollouts, Milesight provides three pre-set modes that align reporting and collection behavior to typical use cases:

Standard mode: general distance/level monitoring

Bin mode: fill level and overflow monitoring for waste containers

Parking lot mode: event-focused occupancy reporting

In bin scenarios, EM400-MUD combines distance detection with additional device status signals: it reports normal/tilt status and includes a temperature sensor for broader condition awareness around the asset.

Built for outdoor reliability, the device is IP67-rated and includes a protective coating on the PCBA to help resist moisture and contaminants. Power is supplied by 2× 9000 mAh ER26500 Li-SOCl2 batteries, and the manufacturer provides mode-dependent battery life guidance for the LoRaWAN version (Standard/Bin >10 years, Parking mode 5 years under defined trigger conditions).
