The Dragino RS485-LN is a LoRaWAN RS485 converter designed to bring existing RS485 devices into a long-range wireless network. Instead of replacing proven RS485/Modbus instruments, you can keep installed meters, transmitters, and controllers—then send their data to a LoRaWAN gateway and network server. This approach can significantly reduce deployment time and ongoing maintenance, especially across large sites or retrofit projects.

On uplink, RS485-LN works like a programmable poller: it sends user-defined commands (for example, Modbus reads) to RS485 devices, parses the responses, and applies rule-based processing to generate the final LoRaWAN payload. That means you can extract only the registers you care about and keep payloads efficient.

A key advantage is downlink responsiveness. RS485-LN can operate in LoRaWAN Class C by default, so it can receive commands with minimal delay and forward them to RS485 devices. This is useful not only for monitoring but also for control—changing setpoints, switching modes, or sending commands to RS485 controllers. Uplinks can be scheduled periodically or driven by polling logic.
