This WisGate Connect configuration is built for smart building and smart SOHO deployments where local protocol handling, LoRaWAN connectivity, and on-device services need to sit in one box. It is not just a packet forwarder. It is closer to a compact edge computer with gateway functions.
The selected version combines an 8-channel LoRaWAN gateway for EU868 / IN865 / RU864 with a Raspberry Pi CM4 in the 2 GB RAM, 16 GB eMMC, WiFi configuration. That fits installations where room sensors, meters, switches, environmental data, or small building subsystems are collected locally and handed off to a higher-level platform. Typical placements include utility rooms, comms cabinets, office sites, small building control setups, and integrator test environments.
At the hardware level, the unit is based on the RAK7391 carrier board and exposes the interfaces needed for real integration work: Ethernet, USB, HDMI, mPCIe, M.2, WisBlock IO, Raspberry Pi HAT, DSI, and CSI. That makes it suitable not only as a LoRaWAN gateway, but also as a local integration point when extra radio or I/O modules need to be added. For system integrators and product teams, that is more useful than a fixed-function gateway with little room for expansion.
The aluminum enclosure also acts as a heat sink, so the gateway runs without active cooling. That matters in desk installations, technical cabinets, and quiet indoor environments where fan noise is unwanted. The integrated OLED provides quick device status on the unit itself. On the software side, RAKPiOS provides a tailored Linux distribution with drivers, helper scripts, Docker, and rakpios-cli for deploying local IoT services more quickly.
