Product Description Technical Details

The RAKwireless RAK12032 adds a 3-axis accelerometer to the WisBlock ecosystem using the Analog Devices ADXL313. It’s built for reliable motion and orientation change sensing, with a strong focus on low power for battery-powered IoT nodes. The sensor is described as automatically scaling power with data rate, reaching as low as 30 µA in measurement mode.

The module supports multiple measurement ranges (±0.5 g, ±1 g, ±2 g, ±4 g) and offers high resolution up to 13-bit. For cleaner motion readings, it also lists low noise performance of 150 µg/√Hz typical on the X-Y axes. A key integration benefit is the built-in motion detection for activity/inactivity monitoring, enabling event-driven designs such as wake-on-motion, threshold alerts, or only transmitting data when movement is detected.

Motion data is provided via I2C and the module runs from a 3.3 V supply. It mounts into the sensor slot on a WisBlock Base board; using it requires a WisBlock Base plus a WisBlock Core module. The text also mentions a software library, tutorial, and example code to speed up evaluation and integration.

Practical use cases include:

Asset and device monitoring: movement/transport detection, tilt events, tamper indication

Industrial monitoring: motion/vibration event detection on equipment, doors, housings

Battery IoT nodes: wake-on-motion and activity logging to extend runtime
