The Milesight UC100 is designed for projects where existing Modbus RTU devices need to be integrated into an IoT system over LoRaWAN. Instead of replacing installed meters, sensors, or field devices, the UC100 acts as a compact bridge between RS485 and LoRaWAN. This makes it easier to digitize existing installations without extending data cabling all the way to the platform layer.
Typical use cases include utility rooms, metering points, substations, machine environments, building automation, water and environmental systems, and distributed infrastructure installations. In these environments, devices such as energy meters, controllers, sensors, and other field equipment often already provide Modbus RTU communication. The UC100 reads that data over RS485 and sends it wirelessly over LoRaWAN on EU868.
The controller can read up to 64 Modbus registers and supports both standard Modbus RTU communication and passthrough. This makes it suitable for integrators who either want to poll defined register values on a schedule or need more transparent serial data forwarding for specific applications. It is particularly useful in retrofit projects where a small, simple, and low-power hardware bridge is needed.
Another practical advantage is local logic. IF-THEN commands allow simple automation and trigger handling to run directly on the device. The UC100 can continue to execute these functions even when the network is temporarily unavailable. Data storage, retrieval, and retransmission also help prevent measurement data from being lost during connection interruptions.
For integrators, the UC100 is most relevant where RS485 field devices need to be added to LoRaWAN projects with minimal effort. Its compact size, USB Type-C configuration, optional internal or external antenna, and Milesight D2D support make it a practical interface device for professional IoT deployments.
