The RAK13800 is the straightforward way to add wired Ethernet to a WisBlock build—perfect when Wi-Fi is unreliable, when you need deterministic connectivity, or when your device lives inside a cabinet where cable just makes more sense.
At the center is the WIZnet W5100S-L, a well-known Ethernet controller with a hardwired TCP/IP stack. In practice, that means your MCU doesn’t have to fight with heavy networking code. You work with simple socket-style programming while the chip handles the core network protocols. It’s a clean fit for sensor gateways, industrial data loggers, building automation nodes, or any project that needs stable LAN access.
With 10BaseT/100BaseTX and four independent sockets, the module can handle multiple connections at once—think telemetry + control + diagnostics without awkward workarounds. It also supports power-saving features (Ethernet power-down, clock gating) and Wake-on-LAN over UDP, which can be useful if your device spends time in a low-power state.
Note: RAK13800 mounts in the WisBlock IO slot. PoE is supported when paired with the WisBlock RAK19018 PoE daughter board, enabling data + power over a single Ethernet cable.
