LoRaWAN LiDAR Distance Sensor EU868 – Dragino DS20L
The Dragino DS20L is a compact LoRaWAN distance sensor with LiDAR measurement technology for non-contact distance detection from 3 to 200 cm. This EU868 version fits level sensing, presence detection, counting tasks, and short-range distance measurement in buildings, containers, and technical installations where readings need to be sent to an IoT server such as Kilo or other compatible platforms.

The Dragino DS20L measures distance using LiDAR and is built for short to medium range detection in the near field. Its operating range is 3 to 200 cm, which makes it suitable for installations where precise distance values, state changes, or counting events need to be detected. It sends those values wirelessly over LoRaWAN on EU868.
Typical use cases include containers, access hatches, technical compartments, access points, building zones, or installations where an object, flap, fill level, or approaching item needs to be detected over a short distance. In practice, that can mean level detection in smaller bins, occupancy or state detection inside technical enclosures, monitoring of deposit points, or counting events when an object passes through the sensing area.
The DS20L is not an ultrasonic sensor. It uses LiDAR, which is particularly useful where directed short-range distance measurement is needed. In addition to periodic measurement, it also supports continuous detection plus alarm and counting modes. That allows the unit to be used not only for raw distance readings, but also for event detection and simple trigger-based monitoring.
For integrators, the DS20L is relevant when a compact distance sensor needs to be connected to a LoRaWAN network without extra wiring. The internal battery suits long-running measurement points with low power demand. For applications that need continuous measurement or alarm and counting functions, the unit can also be powered from an external source. That gives more flexibility depending on whether battery life or continuous sensing matters more in the project.
