The RAKwireless RAK19001 is the main WisBlock base board for building modular IoT hardware where you need more slots, cleaner wiring, and reliable interconnects. It provides the power distribution and the board-to-board connectivity between a WisBlock Core and attached WisBlock modules, making it a practical foundation for prototypes that combine multiple sensors, positioning modules, and interface boards in one stack.
Compared to simpler carrier boards, RAK19001 is built for expansion: it includes two IO slots for larger modules and six sensor slots (A–F) for WisBlock add-ons. For real development workflows—bring-up, debugging, and iterative integration—it also exposes the key WisBlock Core I/O through 2.54 mm headers, giving you straightforward access to common buses such as I2C, SPI, UART, and USB, plus additional GPIO for custom wiring or third-party circuitry.
A USB-C connector is provided for convenient development tasks like firmware uploading and serial communication, connected either directly to the Core MCU’s USB port (if supported) or through a USB-UART converter depending on the Core module. Power options support typical IoT lab and field setups: 5 V USB, 3.7 V rechargeable battery, or 3.3 to 5.5 V non-rechargeable battery, with a slide switch to select the battery type. The WisBlock Core can also control the module power rail to help minimize overall power consumption in low-power designs.
For deployments and testing in vibration-prone environments (mobile prototypes, industrial test rigs, field trials), module connections are reinforced by high-speed board-to-board connectors and screw mounting, improving mechanical reliability while maintaining signal integrity. The board also includes two user-definable LEDs, a power/charging indicator LED, and a user-definable push button for UI actions, mode switching, or test routines.
