Through-Beam Fork Sensor RAKwireless RAK12028+RAK12031 (Omron EE-SX1041)

This WisBlock set provides classic through-beam fork sensing (emitter and receiver facing each other inside a fork) in a compact, integration-friendly form. The combination of RAK12028 (connector module) and RAK12031 (T-fork sensor PCB) is based on the Omron EE-SX1041 and is designed for reliable detection of moving targets and for generating optical pulse trains used to calculate speed or RPM.

In practical builds, a fork sensor is often paired with a code disc on a rotating shaft: each slot or mark interrupts the beam, producing pulses that can be counted to derive RPM, and—depending on disc geometry—basic position/angle information. The same approach works with a linear code bar to measure position and velocity in linear motion systems. This makes the module a strong fit for mechatronics prototypes where you want repeatable signals without cameras or magnetic encoder complexity.

Typical real-world applications:

Motor speed (RPM) measurement using a code disc on fans, spindles, conveyors, or small drive systems.

Linear position/velocity measurement using a grating/code strip on a moving carriage or actuator.

Part counting / edge detection for small moving objects in mechanical test rigs.

Integration notes:

RAK12028 is the connector module that plugs into a WisBlock Base and provides a dedicated 6-pin connector for the sensor PCB.

RAK12031 is the actual T-fork sensor PCB, connected to RAK12028 via cable.

Mechanical geometry: slot width 5 mm and slot depth 8.2 mm, relevant for disc/strip thickness and alignment.
