The Dragino LDS40-LB measures distance using LiDAR time-of-flight technology and is built for installations where a distance value needs to be captured reliably over longer range without contact. With measurement capability up to 40 m at high reflectivity, it covers applications where shorter-range sensors are not enough and where ultrasonic sensing may be less suitable.
In practical use, it fits level and free-space measurement in water tanks, silos, shafts, utility rooms, and collection points. It also makes sense for occupancy and proximity detection in access lanes, parking areas, deposit points, material zones, or technical installations where an object needs to be detected by directed distance measurement. With its narrow 3° field of view, the sensing point can be aimed at a defined surface or object without pulling in too much of the surrounding scene.
For integrators, the LDS40-LB is useful when a single distance value or threshold needs to be tied into a monitoring or alerting workflow over LoRaWAN. That can be relevant for overflow detection in containers, level monitoring in shafts, presence detection in technical areas, or distance checking in automation tasks. The LiDAR approach is directional and works best where the target surface is clearly defined.
The LB version uses an 8500 mAh Li/SOCl2 battery and is intended for long service life at fixed sensing points. Bluetooth 5.1 helps with setup on site, OTA updates reduce service work, and EU868 LoRaWAN connectivity fits distributed projects in industry, infrastructure, buildings, and environmental monitoring.
