Product Description

RAKwireless RAK12010 adds reliable ambient light (lux) measurement to WisBlock systems when you need consistent data for control logic, logging, or automation. The module uses the Vishay Semiconductors VEML7700, a digital ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) with 16-bit resolution and an I2C interface, making it straightforward to integrate into embedded firmware and product prototypes.

With a measurement range from 0 lx up to ~120,000 lx, it covers everything from very low indoor light to bright daylight conditions. The 0.0036 lx resolution is especially useful when you want to detect subtle changes, build stable thresholds, or capture detailed lighting profiles. The sensor also offers excellent temperature compensation, helping maintain measurement stability across changing environmental conditions.

Real-world use cases include:

Automatic brightness control for displays, indicators, HMIs, and control panels.

Energy-saving lighting logic in buildings (day/night switching, adaptive lighting, occupancy + light threshold rules).

Greenhouse and indoor farming monitoring, logging grow-light cycles and daylight variation.

Environmental data loggers and IoT nodes where lux provides context (e.g., “in sun vs. shade”).

The module runs on 3.3 V and lists a current consumption of < 2 to 45 µA, making it suitable for battery-powered WisBlock deployments.
